CURRICULAM

KINDERGARTEN

The primary goal of every educational approach is to impart knowledge to young minds; however, the Montessori Method tries to achieve this aim in an environment which is natural, interactive, spontaneous and joyful. At Aakansha, the Montessori curriculum aims at the effortless acquisition of knowledge which leads to the unfolding of the innate ability residing in children. We follow a constructivist or “discovery” model, where students learn concepts from working with materials, and each other, rather than by direct instruction. In Montessori education there is no imposed effort, no constraints, and therefore, no fatigue.

There is only growth, characterised by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development, which leads to discovery and eventual mastery. In addition to this, we at Aakansha expose the students to Jolly Phonics. This helps children to recognize sounds and use it to read at a very early age. We also provide the child exposure to the modern aspects of education against the backdrop of a universal value system that we believe is essential and lends context to education. The children at Akansha grow with these principles and achieve a level of social and emotional maturity.

They grow into children who are confident, assertive and refined. This transformation is gradual, but becomes permanent over time, and with guided reflection. The child’s skill sets now include clarity in thought and a distinct inclination towards interest areas. Montessori education has been proven to be one of the most conducive ways to bring out the inherent yet diverse talents in a child.

The Primary School from grade 1 to 4 follows the Cambridge International Primary Years Programme. Curriculum is integrated, according to international standards and parameters thereby allowing the students to think laterally, to be self-confident and be respectful of other

SPORT ACTIVITIES

Physical activity for children has been linked to positive self-esteem, skill development, skeletal and cardiovascular health, and general healthy development. Our students spend a significant amount of time at school and therefore at Oasis International School we believe that the school environment needs to be supportive of students being physically active.
Aim of sports is to create a healthier and fit student community with sporting excellence. Sports has a major role to play in school and it is an integral part of student life. As the saying goes, “A sound mind in a sound body”, which means there should be a well working mind in a healthy body in order to achieve goals.
We at Aakansha have introduced and designed Sports Program to cater to the students’ developmental needs such as Physical, Mental and Social skills through participation in various activities. They learn to communicate, co-operate and help each other to enrich their real-life experience. Every student gets a chance to participate in Sports program, which will help in both academic and non-academic performance. During PE classes students are given opportunity and exposure to major & minor, indoor & outdoor games which include Athletics, Fun games and Recreational activities (Gross motor, Fine motor, manipulative and balancing skills). Under special sports programme, students from Grade 3 upwards are given a chance to opt for Coaching the basics of the games.
Aakansha believes in identifying talents in students and enhancing them through team building sessions. We keep the competitive spirit of students by giving them opportunities to participate in Inter House and Inter School competitions. Sports program is led by the Sports Coordinator and supported by the Buchade sports wrestling Academy

The program was conceptualised keeping in mind the school’s vision of making students conscious of their social responsibility towards those less fortunate and to be contributing members of the society. Being a parent-led initiative, it also had the added advantage of parental involvement in school activities. It is a proven fact, by the John Hattie’s survey on the factors that influence student learning, that parental involvement has both academic and non-academic benefits for the students It also benefits the school by nurturing positive school culture, through effective networking and sharing of good parenting practices.
